Jan 1st: Starting balance is $66,688.

Jan 5th: Contrarian Advice – Action to Take: Nothing new, 3 buy recommendations on funds already in the portfolio.

Jan 29th: Sold REM and YMLP for a small profit and used proceeds to purchase CLNS.

Feb 2nd: Contrarian Advice – Action to Take: Nothing new, 1 buy recommendations on a fund already in the portfolio.

Feb 28th: Very pleased. February saw a bit of a market slide backwards. The portfolio balance is back to what is was last May yet the dividends are stellar. At the end of March I’ll get a true sense of what to expect the income this portfolio will produce.

Mar 2nd: Contrarian Advice – Action to Take: Buy the BlackRock Floating Rate Income Strategies Fund (FRA) up to $14.75.

1st Quarter Update: Not bad results. A $1,331 3-month dividend return equates to $5,324 for the year. That is an 8.5% return on a $62,243 balance.

The balance has slid back to what it was last April yet the portfolio generated $354 more this 1st Quarter over last years 1st Quarter. The reason is simple; we are reinvesting dividends in to some stocks and funds at prices that have slid back a bit.

Apr 6th: Contrarian Advice – Action To Take: Sell the Nuveen NASDAQ 100 Dynamic Overwrite Fund (QQQX) for 40% gains (including dividends) with a limit order of $24.50.

Apr 9th: Sold QQQX for a $543 profit. Placed buy orders for 61 more shares of RA and 63 more shares of UTF.

Apr 10th: Bought 61 more shares of UTF and 61 shares of RA.

May 4th: Contrarian Advice – Action To Take: Sell the FAX and buy more shares of LADR on one of 8 other holdings.

May 11th: Sold FAX for a $178 profit.

May 15th: Purchased 150 more shares of LADR.

Oct 13th: Wow, a two day slide brought the balance to $65,387. Good thing this is a dividend portfolio. If the fourth quarter mirrors the last three we might hit $6k in dividends. If so, that’s about a 9% return on 65k.

Year End Results: I’m glad I bought the Contrarian Portfolio Subscription last year. The year end balance is $61,655, which is about five thousand less than we started the year at.  The portfolio payed $5,402 in dividends, which bought a lot more shares of each equity. It should pay more next year. The year starting balance was $66,688, making the dividend paid a little over 8% return on investment.

I sold several equities in Cindy’s IRA at the end of 2017. I also sold two mutual funds and the last Fidelity fund in 2018.

To get an idea of the dividend performance I’ll look at the total paid at each quarter.

1st quarter 2017 $978
2nd quarter 2017 $1,140
3rd quarter 2017 $1,270
4th quarter 2017 $1,393
1st quarter 2018 $1,332
2nd quarter 2018 $1,297
3rd quarter 2018 $1,350
4th quarter 2018 $1,424

I’m optimistic the portfolio will continue it’s steady dividend growth through compounding and no major changes or any deposits are necessary. She plans on retiring at age 60, another 10 years from now. If the trend continues, adding $100 in dividends per year, she would be earning about $2,425 per quarter, or $808 per month.
